The Sami have practiced traditional reindeer herding since the 17th century. Reindeer herding is more than just a profession but a way of life. Time is measured in the passing of the seasons and home is where the lavvu is set up on the migration trails. Now you have the chance to experience a glimpse of the traditional lifestyle of the reindeer people. This exclusive, once in a lifetime opportunity allows you to experience the amazing lifestyle of the Sámi people and to get up close and personal with their most iconic creature – the reindeer.
What to bring: Warm clothes (at least two layers), mittens, hat, good winter boots.
Pick-up time and place: at 11:00 AM from Radisson Blu Hotel
• Transfers (20 min each way) by comfortable coach
• Knowledgeable English-speaking Sami guide
• Hot drink (saft) served by the outdoor bonfire as an introduction
• Feeding the Reindeer inside the fence.

SamiCamp is located approximately 20-minute drive from Tromsø city centre. At the camp you can learn more about the reindeer and even feed the herd of reindeer. If you are lucky they will feed from your hands! Inside the lavvu (a traditional Sami tent) warm drinks and a traditional Sami meal will be cooked over the fire and then served. After the meal you are invited to gather around the fire and listen to stories about Sami culture, life as a reindeer herder and even listen to the traditional Sami song called ‘joik’.
